Downtown Arcata on a Quiet Morning

20160710_arcata_0845-265-Edit

I took this with the 17mm tilt-shift lens on a July morning in 2016. I reprocessed this using a graduated filter instead of dropping the blue luminance to darken the sky. By doing so, I eliminated the fringing that was evident on the lamp post and building roof lines.

Sky darkened by dropping the blue lumosity.

NORTHWESTERN PACIFIC RAILROAD TRAIN AT DEL NORTE STREET

humboldt_bay-23

There were a couple of tracks at Del Norte Street (the dock is behind me and to the right). I assume that this was an inbound freight. The railroad was still active in the nineteen-eighties as the timber industry was still a prime engine for the Humboldt economy.

THE AVILA AT EUREKA

20141220humboldt_bay_shipping1013-Edit

Here is another view from the Del Norte Street dock. It looks to me that the ship’s name is Avila, and I assume that it is a tanker. I believe that the two tugs are the Thor, and the Atlas.  Part of the Louisiana Pacific complex at Samoa is in the background.

HUMBOLDT BAY IN THE NINETEEN EIGHTIES

20180124humboldt_bay_shipping1014

This image is a scanned 35mm color slide from about nineteen-eighty. I used to ride my bicycle to the Del Norte dock to watch and photograph the harbor activity. I took this photograph from the bluff above Broadway. The railroad cars are of the Northwestern Pacific Railroad. In the background is the Simpson Pulp Mill.
