TESTING THE NEW LENS

Ready for Rehab-1 The Home Place Interior, f11 at 1-8-1 The Home Place-1

I received my new 16-35 lens yesterday. I am looking forward to using it for landscapes, and hand-held photography. The lens has image-stabilization which is rare for such a wide-angle lens, but for shaky me, it is a fulfillment of a wish. Yesterday, right out of the box, I took a hand-held shot downstairs at 1/8 of a second that came out acceptably sharp. The above photos are some of the very first. I should get a chance to do some landscape work Saturday.

RELIC OF AN ABANDONED RAILROAD

Northwestern Pacific Relic-1

This grade-crossing signal stands near the Arcata Marsh. It amazes me just how quickly nature can reclaim its habitat – especially in an environment such as the one in which I live. This railroad icon was built to last, but it stands near both a saltwater environment and a rainforest. Parts of the railroad bed itself is returning to nature as berry vines find habitat amongst the ties, gravel ballast, and steel rails.

A GATHERING OF “THINGS THAT GO BUMP IN THE NIGHT”

The boy scouts were all gathered around the campfire where they performed skits and told spooky tales – if they only had eyes that could see what was surrounding them.
