TROLL OUT BACK

Troll in the Backyard

I ran into this guy just as he was waking up for a night of trolling in the woods. I think he just wanted to greet me as best he could.

Here are three variations of one image. I have yet to decide which I prefer, but I am leaning toward the color image.

DEAD DIESELS

sp 3779

When I was about twelve years old I frequented the area where the outdated steam locomotives were in storage. That place was in the Southern Pacific’s Bakersfield Yard. The locomotives were replaced with “modern” locomotives like this one. The new diesels were more efficient in about every way. They required a smaller crew, and could be connected together so that one engineer could operate up to ten locomotives at one time.

These locomotives in this photograph are now at the end of their lives and await their time to become scrap metal. Bye-the-way, my very first trip as a locomotive engineer was on an EMD-GP-9 like this one.
